The round brilliant diamond is the shape that all others aspire to. Devised in the 1920's by Marcel Talkowsky to maximise light return, every angle and facet is used to bounce light around the stone and back out of the top facet (table) causing maximum fire and brilliance (sparkle) which makes it so desirable.
Although the most popular shape, due to demand and poor yield when cut from a rough stone, round brilliants are the most expensive shape retailing at over 25% more than other shapes. Its 58 facets and sparkle can hide some inclusions so an SI grade can work. Colour is always important so G/H grade minimum. Particular attention should be paid to the cut of round brilliants and the GIA grade this on their certificates. Very Good to Excellent grade is our recommendation as anything below this can appear dull and/or smaller as the spread will be wrong.
